f3a74f1162 Return non-zero exit code for test failure in multitargeted test project. 
Treat the errors from vstest task as errors (instead of warnings) before continuing further.
Add asserts for exit code in tests for dotnet-test and dotnet-vstest.

a22f4be938 Adding a UpdateContextTransform that generates items with the Update attribute set instead of Include. Also, removed the Exists condition for published content, because now that we are using Update, that check is not needed. 84682562bf Adding a condition to Content CopyToPublishDirectory to validate that the file exists before trying to copy it to output, to keep the same functionality as it existed in PJ. In MSBuild world, without this condition, CopyToPublishDirectory will fail. 2016-12-13 16:45:39 -08:00

d335b5de40 Changing dotnet-test options (#4987) 
In Preview 3, the `dotnet test` options were not aligned with the CLI's
adopted format. This PR changes the options to be aligned. Where
possible/applicable, I have shortened the long options to a meaningful
mnemonic short version.

Fixes #4960

e1965327e0 Adding a test that restores all c# templates and checks that none of them depend on a package produced by the CLI. I had to write this as a single test for all templates because it cuts the test time in about half to restore all the packages at once to the same folder than to clean and restore again everytime per template. 2016-12-09 16:11:57 -08:00

bd590f51e6 Emitting PackageId whenever we emit AssemblyName. We need to do this to preserve the behavior from PJ where the package id matched the containing PJ folder name. In MSBuild, PackageId will match AssemblyName, unless it is explicitly specified. (#4990) 2016-12-09 16:10:16 -08:00

* Adding a SdkNugetVersion property when invoking dotnet pack on test packages so that test packages can reference exact packages. We need that because of https://github.com/NuGet/Home/issues/4063. Without it, pack creates the nuspec with a version like 1.0.0-version-, instead of 1.0.0-version-<version_used_in_build>, which leads to problems when restoring the tool. Like, it ends up restoring to the closest version of the package (oldest), instead of the latest.

bb1bceb8bb When we had a project.json without frameworks, we were failing to show the appropriate error message because when we were generating the error message itself we tried to access the project context (which requires a framework in the PJ). This fix makes the ProjectContext optional to add the migration error. 2016-12-08 19:53:35 -08:00

Each SDK restore operation will try to manipulate the same assets.json file since the dependency name&version are injected into a common csproj file. This can cause runtime failures when two NuGets try to restore the project at once.

caad95491a Fix output race (#4911) 
* Fix output race

TestCommand starts the test process before wiring up stderr & stdout. This change delays process start until after the wireup is finished so that the test process cannot shut down before we have wired up output redirection.

* Bypass stream forwarder when it fails to attach to a process

CLI has tests failing errenously when, due to timing issues, the StreamForwarders fail to attach to a process because it managed to exit before attachment occurs. 

We tried attaching the forwarders prior to Process Start but this proved impossible because the OUT and ERR streams are not available to attach before the process starts. 

This exposes a fundamental flaw in our output redirection mechanisms. We should probably move to using https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.diagnostics.process.outputdatareceived.aspx or a similar mechanism. However, I don't know that @brthor hadn't considered and discarded this approach.

For the time being I am attempting to make tests more deterministic by capturing the associated exceptions and moving to a different mechanism when StreamForwarders are not available.

Opened https://github.com/dotnet/cli/issues/4913 to track the broader issue.

dc87680337 Making Project Tools use the CLI shared runtime if they have the prefercliruntime in the root of their package. * Custom logger for MSBuild to receive telemetry events

Had to make the telemetry session ID a static variable so that the forwarding app could use it.

I've tested this all manually and will be writing tests after everyone signs off on the implementation here.

ce6c29676d Adding "BuildRid" to the CLI as a fallback RID to use when inferring which RID to use when building, running, and publishing self-contained applications. 
This enables users to use the CLI on newer versions of the OS that aren't fully supported yet - for example using a new OSX version that isn't listed in the runtime graph in the current NuGet packages.

- Given a project migrate all the project references recursively.
- Add a boolean option '--skip-project-references' to skip migrating P2P references. By default P2P references are migrated.
- Remove the '--output' since it is not used heavily and makes migrating multiple projects easier.

6eabeb9be0 Generate runtimeconfig.json and runtimeconfig.dev.json from MSBuild 
Moves generating the runtimeconfig files to a separate MSBuild target which is only dependent on project.lock.json.

Also, moving up our NuGet dependency to 3.5.0-rc1-1653, since that brings in the LockFile.PackageFolders property, which is needed for runtimeconfig.dev.json.

105e5ab051 Introducing a in progress sentinel that gets verified before running the first time experience. If we can get a handle for this sentinel, we proceed with the first time run, otherwise, it means there is a first time experience running already, in which case we continue running dotnet normally, even though the final (real) sentinel is not present yet. 84f63029fe Almost all of the code to prime the NuGet cache from the archive. 
- Created a Configurer class that is responsible for deciding when to run the dotnet first time use
experience and invoke the NuGetCachePrimer.
- Added the NuGetCachePrimer which extract the archive and primes the cache.
-- This is just missing creating the sentinel once restore succeeds.
- Added a shell for the NugetPackagesArchiver, which will be responsible for expanding the archive (likely
replaced in the future by an abstraction from Eric's code or its implementation will simply call Eric's code).
- Added a TemporaryFolder abstration to Internal Abstractions that handles deleting the temporary folder once
we are done with it.

651e8c2524 perf tests: add fallback feed to dotnet restore (#3160) 
The perf tests use `dotnet restore` to download test dependencies. The
perf tests' project.json may sometimes refer to a version of the
framework that is not yet published, which can cause the restore command
to fail. This change addresses the issue by adding a fallback nuget feed
that contains not-yet-published version of the framework.

785cab3072 Reduce nuget output 
This addresses part of #1623. Unfortunately, because the CLI takes Nuget
as a binary, it is hard to get to where I think we should really be.
This change makes default verbosity "minimal", which is the first level
where you get any status output. Unfortunately, things like package
downgrade warnings and the like still appear there. This does hide all
the "info" and "trace" messages by default.

I also removed the now useless (and previously undocumented)
--quiet.

ecdb10591c Project.json schema warnings don't get displayed 
When building a project.json that has schema warnings (and other warnings), we are not writing the warnings to the console. This is a regression.

The fix is to add all diagnostic messages to the LibraryManager, which is responsible to hold all the diagnostic messages.

When running an app with `dotnet run`, we are redirecting the standard out and error just to print it out to our standard out and error. However, we are batching the output until we hit a newline, which isn't ideal for console apps.

To fix this, `dotnet run` no longer redirects the standard out and error.

a6cc2b07dd Update nuget version to 3.5.0-rc-1285 
This is required to update the corefx dependencies from RC2 to RC3. Some
of the corefx libs have 'netstandard1.6' as TFM and this version of Nuget
supports that TFM.

Also the 'VersionRange.IncludePrerelease' has been removed from nuget and by
default 'VersionRange.Satisfies' returns true for any prerelease version.

The issue is when the ProjectContextBuilder sees a CompileTimePlaceholder "_._" file on a full framework, it assumes that dependency has to come from the "Reference Assemblies" directory.  If it can't be found there, an error is raised.  However, there are other reasons "_._" placeholders are created (when a NuGet package doesn't want its dependencies to be exposed in the Compile dependencies of its consumers). And these placeholders can exist for assemblies that aren't in the full framework - in this case System.Diagnostics.FileVersionInfo and others.

To fix this, if the reference can't be resolved from the "Reference Assemblies" folder, it is just skipped. If the compiler really needs that assembly, it will raise an error to the user.  Dotnet build shouldn't raise the error.

* Add script to run and compare CLI perf tests

tests/Performance/run-perftests.py is a Python3 script that fetches all
of the dependencies needed to run the perf tests in test/Performance
locally. It can run the perf tests for a single dotnet.exe, or run two
dotnet.exe instances sequentially and compare the results between them.

Basic usage for a single test:
  run-perftests.py --name "runid" ...\dotnet.exe

Usage for a comparison run:
  run-perftests.py --name "runid" ...\dotnet.exe --base ...\dotnet.exe

For more detailed usage:
  run-perftests.py -h

* run-perftests: fix publish xunit.perf.runner.cli

The code that builds xunit-performance would skip publishing
Microsoft.DotNet.xunit.performance.runner.cli due to a bug in the
condition to check whether it was published already or not. To fix the
issue and simplify the logic, I'm making it always publish when
building the project, instead of building and publishing separately.

* run-perftests: add support for python2

* run-perftests.py: fix framework version issue

The perf test harness was failing with "stage 0" binaries due to an issue
finding the correct installed framework version. The fix is to delete the
project.lock.json followed by a dotnet restore before each run, using the
dotnet.exe that is about to be tested. (Kudos to @brianrob for the debugging
help and suggested fix!)

16b996f25b Fixing the BuiltInCommandTests to not mutate global shared state. 
The BuiltInCommandTests sets the current Console.Out and Console.Error, which causes the test to fail if some other test is running and writes to the console at the same time.

ef0ca39da1 Memory usage improvements in build (#2626) 
* Use a WorkspaceContext in dotnet-build to cache project data across
multiple compilations in a single build action
* Dramatically reduce string and object duplication by introducing a
"Symbol Table" that shares instances of NuGetVersion, NuGetFramework,
VersionRange and string across multiple lock-file parses

Test Results:
* Testing was done by compiling Microsoft.AspNetCore.Mvc (and it's
dependencies) and taking memory snapshots after each compilation in
dotMemory
* We used to allocate ~3MB and deallocate ~2.5MB on EACH compilation in
a single build action. This has been reduced to ~120KB
allocated/deallocated
* After introducing WorkspaceContext, total memory usage spiked from 6MB
across the whole build action to about 13MB, introducing the symbol
table dropped it back to about 5-6MB.

* Fix duplicate dependency issue
If a package has the same name as a framework assembly in the dependency
graph, we usually replace it with the framework assembly if the package
provides no assets. If the framework assembly wasn't resolved, it would
skip this logic and end up adding dupes to the list, which blows up later on.
This is a tactical fix to solve the issue, we need to do some more thinking
to determine how we want to resolve conflicts between framework assemblies,
packages and dlls with the same name.

803fef6a8b fix equality issue in DependencyContextLoader (#2379) 
When checking if the provided assembly is the Entry Point Assembly, we
previously just checked if the AssemblyNames were equal, but it turns
out AssemblyName doesn't implement Equals, so it was using Reference
Equality, which fails. This change uses Assembly.Equals, which has an
Equals implementation that works.

Also adds some tests to ensure it's working.

This unblocks scenarios where the EntityFramework `dotnet-ef` command
was trying to read DependencyContext.Default but receiving a null
reference.

95accc5f94 Increasing timeout to check Kestrel Server is up. 
KestrelSample app compilation time on CI machines is 16-20s and the test timeouts even before the kestrel server is up, which I suspect is the reason why kestrel tests are flaky.

8a9068efbf Fixing tests now they are portable. 
2 tests needed to lift System.Diagnostics.TraceSource since it isn't in the shared framework.

The ArgumentReflector is now a portable app, so it needs to be invoked with "dotnet".

7b209e5603 Moved ProjectModel to json.net for GlobalSettings and Project.json. Kept LockFileReader using the old API as I don't have the cycles to add the tests for it at the moment. 
Added unit tests covering parsing of Json for all the pieces of the project.json

Added a RawRuntimeOptions to Project and made Executable deserialize that into the runtimeOptions of runtimeconfig.json

Added tests to cover copying runtimeoptions during dotnet build.

d07a1091a8 Added a Help property to DotnetTestParams that indicates when the parsed arguments included the help param. The TestCommand then uses this property of the params to decide whether to continue with the execution or just return. 3186432ebd Fix up the project.json files for CoreFX build rc2-23922. 
- ProjectModel uses AssemblyLoadContext which is only available in netstandard1.5. Moving ProjectModel and all its dependencies up to netstandard1.5.
- Work around our dependencies still being on old CoreFX builds by hoisting System.Runtime.Serialization.Primitives, System.Private.DataContractSerialization, System.Linq.Expressions, and System.Xml.XmlSerializer references to the current version.

8d39adbdbf Modifying the reporting channels to make the AdapterChannel a client and leave the TestRunnerChannel a server. This will prevent port conflicts between dotnet test and the Adapter (VS) due to race conditions. 
Added E2E tests for dotnet test interactions with an adapter (design time).

dotnet-build will produce a deps file for portable builds, and will now
create "runnable" outputs for RID-less targets

the outputs won't actually be runnable today because we need corehost
changes and to generate a deps.json file for corehost to use.

e498f1dc9d Modified the protocol to send a the list of tests to run and to invoke the test runner with the wait command flag so that the runner waits for this list. 
Modified the reporting channel factory to have a create for the adapter and a create for the runner channel. Also added an event to the create runner channel that people can listen and be notified when a test runner channel was created. I use this event to give the message handler access to the runner channel.

Added the new message handler to DotnetTest.

8e06989c8f Add a workaround for a Sockets issue on Unix. 
Adding an explicit reference to System.Net.NameResolution in our dotnet-projectmodel-server.Tests.  The current build of Roslyn references an old version of System.Net.NameResolution which is the version that gets used during the test.  Explicitly referencing the current CoreFX version for now.  This should be reverted when the underlying bug gets fixed, or Roslyn moves to a newer CoreFX version.

6468b14e1d Move to CoreFX build rc2-23901 
Update .exe's project.json Target Framework from dnxcore50 to netstandardapp1.5.
Update .dll's project.json Target Framework from dnxcore50 to netstandard1.3.

Adding workaround for DataContractSerialization to src\dotnet\project.json to fix crossgen issue.
Build 23901 has a dependency issue that doesn't allow the runtime.any.System.Private.DataContractSerialization
package to be restored. When we move to a new build of CoreFX we should take this workaround out.

46b1fb42c0 Test Runner test started needs to handle messages when dotnet test is in a TestStarted state, as we will receive multiple test started messages. Also, to prevent a crash, when we get a message that terminates the adapter or the runner, we need to stop listening. 7630337074 Adding unit tests for the state machine of dotnet test. Starting the implementation of a state machine in dotnet test. Right now we only handle the TestSession:Terminate message. 
Adding a message handler for the version check message. Also introduced an IDotnetTest that handles state and handlers (the state machine).

Adding the test discover start message handler and introducing a test runner.

Added the handler for the GetTestRunnerProcessInfo message. Also, modified dotnet test to have separate setter for the special message handlers for terminate and unknown messages and added a separate method to add new reporting channels to DotnetTest, so that it can handle the new listener for the test runner.

Added the test runner test discovery handlers.

Added handlers to deal with the test execution itself.

Updated dotnet-test program to use the message handlers during design time.

Added a test for the whole discover tests message flow.

Added a test for the run tests full message exchange.

4e1ec4c159 Refactoring dotnet-compile to make adding the script variable testable. So far, moved it to have a compiler controller and two separate compilers: native and managed. Also moved the script runner to its own class so that we can mock it into the managed controller. 
Adding a ICommand interface and factory that we can use to mock Commands and avoid actually running them in unit tests.

7573689a22 Removing www.myget.org in our tests. 
We have a bunch of NuGet.Config files in our tests that were needed before because the tests were run out of a temp directory.  Now the tests are run out of the artifacts folder, which is a subdirectory of our repo root, so the root NuGet.Config will get picked up.

I also updated all the dotnet-core feeds from www.myget.org to dotnet.myget.org.

a35ae177ff - Make all of the code looking for built assets use the OutputPathCalculator 
- Project dependencies are always built into their specific folders and the main project is the only one that uses the output path and intermediate output path variable.
- Publish respects the output path for publish only, not compile as part of publish. This means that publishing multiple runtimes will stomp on each other. So don't do that. We can throw if you specify and output location and you haven't specified a specific combination of RID and framework. Alternatively it should probably just pick the first TFM/RID pair from the lock file. This is similar to how `dotnet run` works.
- Cleaned up the incremental build output formatting
- Use a single stream (output stream) since interleaving them was causing formatting issues (like losing random characters in the middle of outputting things).
- Didn't change how pack works, it still preserves the output structure when passing `--output`, this one is worth discussing. We could leave the build output inplace and only move the package to the output location. That's more consistent with how everything else works and can be a follow up PR.

With this change, any referenced analyzer project will be parsed by the
project system and the assemblies will be passed down to the compiler.
By default, the analyzer language is considered to be "cs". If another
language is used, the "languageID" option should be specified inside the

Changing the build scripts to copy files over from debug\dnxcore and to check for the folders existence before trying that.

Fixing compiler tests to look for the xml in the right plae taking into consideration the configuration and tfm.

- Fixed a bunch of dependencies that was causing dotnet restore to fail on the CLI
- Added imports to `project.json` so that `dotnet-restore` works

bedeaaf2dc Compile incrementally 
- Clone the args in the CompileContext constructor to bring uniformity
to the way args are accessed

- Compute IO for a project and have it shared between build and compile

- Extract dependency logic into facade

- Add tests for incremental build

- Add precondition checks for compiler IO

add --force-incremental-unsafe flag

2ebb28819e Enable running tests for CentOS 
CentOS tests were blocked due to issue https://github.com/dotnet/corefx/issues/5066.
It has been fixed with the latest NetStandardLibrary, hence upgrading from 1.0.0-rc2-23616 to 1.0.0-rc2-23704.
With this fix the native shims are correctly restored by dnx for RID centos.7-x64.

892c393509 Assert StdErr is empty for E2E Test 
This is a quick fix to improve test diagnosability with the E2E Test. 

We see situations where the output executable fails and we are left without any error output. 

This addition should output any stderr output from the output executable.

4b07b2d034 Project model server cleanup 
- Removed unused message types
- Removed intermediate ProjectInfo and ProjectState types
- Renamed Snapshot to ProjectSnapshot and ProjectSnapshot to ProjectContextSnapshot
- Exposed Project on ProjectContextCollection
- Removed AllDiagnostics message since it won't be used
- Renamed ProjectContextManager to ProjectManager
- Create project context snapshot in one pass
- Create project contexts lookup inline
- Consistent naming of payloads
